Welcoming Mr. J!

We are excited to welcome Mr. Kenneth Johnson to our teaching faculty at CKDS!

Kenneth Johnson, a Memphis native, mover, creative, and shaker, holds a Bachelor's degree in dance from the University of Memphis, specializing in performance, composition, and improvisation. He refined his skills at Duke University's American Dance Festival and performed with Bridging Souls Dance Company. An award-winning choreographer, Kenneth has worked with many studios, dance teams, and dance companies across the southern U.S., in addition to consulting for the NBA and NFL. Kenneth currently serves as the artistic director for Grace Church Middle Dance Company, bringing his passion and expertise to young dancers.

Also known as Mr. J, he will be teaching Contemporary dance choreography to our Ensemble Dancers on Sundays. Please give him a warm "hello" if you see him around!

Company Auditions

2024-2025 Dance Company Auditions
Sunday, May 5
2-3pm for ages 6-9yrs
3-4pm for ages 10+

 Dancers must arrive 15 minutes prior to their audition time to check-in. Late dancers will not be admitted.  

  • Dancers will follow faculty instructions and do not need to prepare a piece in advance.

  • Hair should be worn neatly up and close to the head

  • No jewelry 

  • Dancers must wear a leotard, convertible or footless tights.

  • All dancers must wear CKV Ballet Slippers* (Ballet slippers are optional for non-CKDS students)  *available at the studio

Dancers accepted into Cynthia King Dance Company exemplify a high standard of technique, artistic expression, maturity and commitment.

Company dancers study ballet, modern, and other styles at an accelerated pace. Advanced dancers may have Pre-Pointe/Pointe class. 

As a highly sought-after company, we are frequently invited to perform at local, civic, and cultural events, including some commercial opportunities. We even tour internationally.
