Q: Do you offer classes for young children?

The youngest dancers at CKDS are 3-4yrs old for our Pre-K Dance class. We offer classes for children from ages three to eighteen as part of our Performance Program and Seasonal Session. Please check our current class schedule for the latest offerings.

Q: What about classes for adults?

Adult classes are currently on hold. Join our mailing list to stay up-to-date.

Q: Do your students perform? Where and when?

CKDS dancers perform regularly throughout the year at numerous community events, including the Flatbush Frolic, the Hummingbird Festival, and the Black VegFest, to name a few.

We also stage an annual spring production series in April, in which dancers from our full year program perform in a professional venue. This highly anticipated event features engaging choreography, vibrant music, and a flourish of creative costumes. King personally oversees all of the costuming and set design, consistently creating a dazzling event for both audience and dancers.

Q: How do I register my child for classes?

Each prospective student meets with Ms. Cynthia King prior to registration. This is not an audition but rather an opportunity to learn about your child’s interests and current skill level, allowing us to determine which class would be the best fit. We want you and your child to get the most out of your experience with us. Please contact us if you are interested in learning more.

Q: My child is interested in pursuing dance more intensively. Do you offer a pre-professional program?

Yes, the structure of the CKDS Company is modeled after that of a professional dance company. Members attend multiple classes each week and perform at various venues throughout the year. Dancers also present complex and sophisticated choreography at each of the shows in our spring production series, giving them the opportunity to delve more deeply into the choreography while experiencing the unique energy that each audience offers. Our dancers have been accepted to New York City's elite performing arts high schools, including Laguardia, PPAS, and Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.

Q: What if my child is interested in becoming a member of the Cynthia King Dance Studio Company?

Acceptance to the CKDS Company is based upon faculty evaluation as well as an audition. Those invited to join exemplify a high standard of technique, artistic expression, maturity, and determination. Auditions are held annually in May, although special arrangements can sometimes be made for an alternate audition time.

Q: What styles of dance are taught at your school?

The CKDS curriculum embraces classical to emerging styles. We offer classes in ballet, modern, contemporary and jazz. A complete list of current classes can be found here.
