AS THESE MAY CHANGE THROUGHOUT THE SEASON, WE WILL UPDATE YOU AS NEEDED.

Dance studio rules are for the benefit of all students and families.

DRESS CODE

Students must be dressed properly, hair neatly pulled back, and remove all jewelry for EVERY class.

(Hair beads must be secured close to the head.)

CKDS Dance Company

  • Specific attire will be ordered and must be purchased in the studio. Cynthia King Ballet Slippers™ are required.

Pre-K Dance / Ballet / Modern / Jazz

  • Girls/Option 1: leotard (solid color, no designs/embellishments, no skirts) and tights

  • Boys/Option 2: studio t-shirt with leggings, dance pants, or sweatpants

  • Cynthia King Ballet Slippers™ are required for pre-k and ballet. Modern dancers dance barefoot

Note: Gender nonconforming students may choose the dress code they are most comfortable with.

Dance Fusion / Hip-Hop / B-Boy / Breakdancing

  • Studio t-shirt with leggings, leggings, or sweatpants

  • Sneakers with secure closure. Sneakers for dance class must not be worn outdoors. Clean bottom sneakers ONLY.

    • Here are some examples: Fierce Dansneaker from Capezio or Gender-Neutral Elastic-Laced Sneakers for Kids from Old Navy

Studio Rules

Cynthia King Dance Studio rules apply for both live and virtual classes.

  • Students must arrive prepared for class in proper dress code

  • No gum, food, or drinks (other than water) are permitted in the studio or waiting area without permission

  • Please follow communication regarding pick up and drop off directions

  • Please try to have the dancer use the bathroom before coming to class to avoid class disruptions

  • NO photography or videotaping is allowed during class or at CKDS performances without permission

  • Students and parents are responsible for their belongings. Do not bring valuables. CKDS is not responsible for lost, stolen, or misplaced property

  • All students MUST be picked up within 5 minutes of the end of class (late pick up fees may be imposed)

NOTE: WE ARE IN A SHARED BUILDING. YOU WILL BE HELD FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PROPERTY DAMAGE CAUSE BY YOU OR YOUR CHILD.

Attendance

  • Students must arrive 5-10 minutes before class to allow time to check-in.

  • All students must be READY TO DANCE at the start of each class.

  • Late students may only enter with the permission of the director or teacher and may be asked to observe class

  • Makeups for missed classes are offered when possible and handled on an individual basis. Makeup classes are not guaranteed.

  • Students who miss three or more classes may have a diminished role in live and/or virtual performances

Class Etiquette

  • Eyes and attention must always be on the teacher.

  • Be appreciative of corrections and apply them.

  • Be kind to your classmates. Rudeness is unacceptable.

  • No talking or leaning on the barre during class.

  • Never stop in the middle of an exercise.

  • Leaving class before it is over is not acceptable.

  • After class, applaud for teacher and say, “Thank you.”

Virtual Class Rules

  • Students must log into class on time

  • Students/families must change the name on device to match the name of the student (if applicable)

  • Camera angle must be set up before class so teacher can see dancer from head to toe (as best you can in your home)

  • Dancer must be prepared in their dress code for their class

  • If the student’s behavior is disruptive to class their camera may be turned off until behavior improves
