Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Amanda Burton

Amanda Burton

Amanda Burton, born in Indiana, pursued her BFA in Dance at Western Michigan University (WMU). She studied at the Conservatory of Dance along with several summer programs, including David Howard, José Limón, David Parsons and Blue Lake Fine Arts Academy. Her most memorable projects at WMU were Balanchine’s “Stars and Stripes,” Martha Graham’s “Steps in the Street,” and Jean Coralli’s Act II of “Giselle.” She has performed in New York City with Hallo-Hallo Inc, The Construction Company with Rebekah Wind Miller, Cobble Hill Ballet, Ellen Strokes Shadle, Erin Malley and Malleable Dance Theater, Amy Adam, and Jamie Dowd. She is currently working with DANCE CAT-ALYST and RFX Swing and loving them!


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Cat Manturuk

Cat Manturuk

Cat Manturuk holds a BFA in Dance and BS in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. Upon graduating, she was on scholarship at Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Center in Chicago. In Los Angeles, she performed with LA Modern and Ballet Company, Blue13 Dance, Regina Klenjosky Dance Company, and Collage Dance Theatre. Later in New York City, she became rehearsal director of Decadancetheatre and a company member to Dance 2XS. Cat is the founder and artistic director of DANCE CAT-ALYST, a soul-driven contemporary dance company. Her music video credits lie with BET and MTVIndia. Cat has been noted as “creating heat” by the LA times and “crisply alive” by the NY times.


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Ivan DeLeon

Ivan DeLeon

Ivan De Leon earned a BS from the University of British Columbia and trained at Circle in the Square Theatre School, Harbour Dance, and Broadway Dance Center. He has performed with acclaimed music artists Talib Kweli and K-OS’ and headlined at the Ailey Citigroup Theatre, The Public Theatre in New York City, the Vancouver International Dance Festival, and Dans Encore International Dance Festival in Quebec. His dancing and choreography have appeared in many television and film productions. Ivan has been featured in The New York Times, Backstage NY, The Vancouver Sun, and other publications.


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Anne Zuerner

Anne Zuerner

Anne Zuerner, born in Rhode Island, studied dance at Barnard College and University of Michigan. She received her early ballet training with Newport Academy of Ballet, Boston Ballet, Hartford Ballet, and Dance Aspen. As a choreographer, she has shown her work at various venues in New York including Joyce Soho, Judson Church, and Danspace Project. Anne has received a choreography fellowship from Summer Stages Dance and funding from the Brooklyn Arts Council to create her work. Besides teaching for Cynthia King Dance Studio, Anne is also a Teaching Artist for Lincoln Center Institute and the New Victory Theater.


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Claire Tunkel

Claire Tunkel

Claire Tunkel, originally from Virginia, graduated from Hollins University with a BA in Dance and Studio Art. She is a Teaching Artist for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Manhattan New Music Project, and Urban Arts Partnership. She teaches ballet, modern, and Chinese folk dance to children and adults of all ages. She danced professionally with the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, Nathan Trice/Rituals, Ellis Wood dance, Colleen Thomas, Theresa Ling, Elizabeth Hazelwood, Gina Kohler, ShaLeigh Dance Works, and Ayo Jackson.


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Odylle Beder

Odylle Beder

Odylle Beder, a Brooklyn native, has a BA in History from Hunter College and is pursuing a Masters in Childhood Education at Brooklyn College. She initially received her dance training at Eliot Feldís Ballet Tech with whom she performed “The NOTcracker” and various other dances at the Joyce Theater. She went on to dance with Daniel Catanach’s Urban Ballet Theatre Ensemble and became immersed in tap, breaking, house, jazz, and locking. Odylle is a member of Cat Manuturuk’s DANCE CAT-ALYST Dance Company. She teaches and assists in several classes at Cynthia King Dance Studio, always striving to instill a love of dance and music into all her students.


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Kathleen Stansell

Kathleen Stansell

Kathleen Stansell, a native of Mississippi, received a BA with Honors in Performance and Choreography from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) and won “Dancer of the Year” each year she attended USM. She is trained in modern, ballet, tap, jazz, improvisation, and choreography. Her repertoire includes works by Catey Ott Dance Collective, Dancecore, Cynthia King, and her own dance collective, Move for Change. Kathleen currently teaches dance to students 20 months old to adult. She feels blessed and honored to be a part of Cynthia King Dance Studio.


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Tamara Jones

Tamara Jones

Tamara Jones is originally from Jamaica, New York. Her dance career started at Gloria Jackson Dance Studio, where she studied ballet, African, tap, and jazz fun. She was the choreographer of African American Arts Association of Cultural Exchange (AAACE). Tamara has been a member of Harambee Dance Company, Bambara, and Les Enfaints du Soleil. She has performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, for Essence Magazine events, and Central Park concerts. She was part of the HBO 2005 Documentary “The Music and Me” and featured in The Daily News and Dance Teachers Magazine. She spreads her passion for dance to her hip hop and African Dance students.


Cynthina King Dance Studio: Instructor Maurice Malcolm

Maurice Malcolm

Maurice Malcolm, Jr., a Brooklyn native, studied tap at the Brooklyn Music School & Playhouse and trained with Broadway choreographer Alan Spaulding and Misty Owens of the Peggy Spina Tap Company. He performed throughout New York City as an original member of the youth tap company “Fulton Feet Express.” Maurice’s dance credits include performances with the New York City Tap Festival at the Duke and Peter Norton Theaters, the 2004 and 2009 Tap Extravaganzas, performances at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and various lecture demonstrations. He has also studied piano and alto saxophone. Maurice is working towards a career in audio (film) production by attending Recording Engineer’s Institute in Long Island.
